How to use it

  1. Choose halves or quarters and set the period length.
  2. Set a sub interval that divides the full game evenly.
  3. Add players in rotation order. Position labels are optional.
  4. Make the plan, then save, share, print or download it.

How it works

  • Each block puts five players on court, following the list and wrapping to the top.
  • Minutes = blocks played × sub interval. Labels name the five plan slots; they do not set league positions.

Number of blocks

B=TI
B
number of blocks
T
total game minutes
I
minutes between substitutions

Worked example

324=8

32 game minutes divided into 4-minute intervals gives 8 blocks.

Minutes for one player

M=b×I
M
the player’s total minutes
b
blocks played by this player
I
minutes in each block

Worked example

5×4=20

5 blocks of 4 minutes gives this player 20 minutes of playing time.

Worked example

8players
8blocks
20minutes each

First 4-minute block

5 players on court

  • Player 1
  • Player 2
  • Player 3
  • Player 4
  • Player 5

Across 8 blocks, every player plays 5 blocks × 4 minutes = 20 minutes.

Frequently asked questions

How do I split minutes with 8 players?

Set the period lengths and sub interval for your game. With 8 players, 4 quarters of 8 minutes and a 4 minute interval, this plan gives everyone 20 minutes.

How often should I sub in youth basketball?

That depends on your league, school or association rules and your team. Check those rules, then choose an interval that divides the game length evenly.

Can every player get the same minutes?

Sometimes. Equal time depends on the squad size, five players on court and number of blocks. The hint describes what the selected plan does and the smallest block count that can divide playing time equally.

What happens if the interval does not divide the game?

The tool shows an inline message. Choose a whole-minute interval that divides the total game length evenly.
